A guided journey starting in Selous Game Reserve. Cross the mighty Rufiji River and explore the ports of Kilwa and Mikindani. Final destination, Zanzibar its historic building and idyllic beaches.
Day 1. Arrive Dar es Salaam International Airport. Transfer to domestic airport for the flight to Selous Game Reserve for an afternoon game drive. Overnight in tented camp on the banks of Rufiji River.
Day 2. Explore the banks of the Rufiji River by foot and by car. Overnight in tented camp (B, L, D)
Day 3. Morning excursion, which can be a game drive and afternoon a boat safari again. Overnight in tented camp (B, L, D).
Day 4. Early start across the Rufiji River to Kilwa Kivinji. Tour this ancient town with crumbling Colonial and Arab buildings. Visit German monuments and Graveyards. Overnight in Kilwa Lodge
Day 5. Cross to Island of Kilwa Kisiwani, once the most prosperous city in Africa. Here is the site of the Great Mosque and a Portuguese fort. In the 15th century it was overrun by cannibals. Overnight in Kilwa.
Day 6. Travel to Lindi for lunch, once the capital and major port in Southern Tanzania. Now a run down town set in a beautiful bay with many historic buildings. In the 1950’s there was a sizeable European community in Lindi and ‘The Club’ is almost unchanged. Africa lunch we move on to another historic port, Mikindani.

The narrow winding streets of Mikindani show a fascination mixture of Arab and African architecture, there are many sites of great historical interest in the village. The Slave Market has recently been restored and is now a thriving Artisan community. Along with the ruined Slave Prison – which gives a poignant insight into the regions turbulent past – you can visit the German Governor’s House and the Livingstone House, from which David Livingstone set out on his final journey.
Stay for 4 nights in The Old Boma, built in 1895. It has beautifully restored into a comfortable hotel, complete with swimming pool and spectacular views of the Indian Ocean.
Day 7 – 9. While in Mikindani experience the piece and beauty of Southern Tanzania. There are a wide variety of activities and excursions, such as Game fishing, Dhow & Market trips, and excursions to the Rondo Forest & Mnazi Bay Marine Reserves.

Day 10. Fly to Dar, then on to Zanzibar. Stay 3 nights in a restored Arabian Palace in the heart of Stone Town.
Day 11 -12. Visit the Slave Market, Cathedral, House of Wonders, Sultan’s Palace and Tippu Tip House. Opportunity to relax on coral beach. Overnight in Zanzibar stone town.
Day 13. Fly Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam then back home.
