KIPEPEO BEACH VILLAGE

Located at Kigamboni suburb named Mjimwema, which literally means good-town.

Kipepeo village is an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature. It's close proximity to town makes it an ideal place to recharge after a tough day in the hot and humid city nearby.

A quick dip in the ocean followed by a cool shower in your bungalow, then relax in the hammock on the balcony with an ice cold drink, and you will quickly forget the city only 9km away and all the problems and worries which you left there.

To meet the high demand for quality accommodation at an affordable price the developers of the kipepeo beach camp embarked on a project to build 20 luxurious elevated beach huts. The task involved building the huts without upsetting the laid-back, and remote, atmosphere that made the place so popular amongst locals and foreigners alike.

All 20 bandas (Swahili for hut) were built in the dense indigenous bush and elevated in order to ensure a stunning view of the sea and to take advantage of the cool ocean breezes. Each Banda has its own private bathroom, with hot and cold running water, and electricity. The bandas can be set up as twins (two singles), doubles, or family rooms.

The design for the bandas was inspired by mud huts built in the villages nearby give the bandas their uniquely African feel. Once the designs were drawn up a prototype was built by local craftsmen entirely out of material found in the area. Great care was taken to ensure that most of the natural bush was preserved giving a feeling a of secluded and remote sanctuary.

The balcony acts as an ideal 'hideaway' to watch the many different birds species found in the surrounding bush. Regular visitors are Kingfishers and Fish eagles. A resident family of about 12 mongooses also lives in the surrounding bush and they can occasionally be spotted running around and playing in the dense bush.

The BEACH BAR - otherwise known as the 'Swimming Cow Pub' This fully stocked bar is crawling distance (approx. 30m) from the high water mark. The Swimming Cow Pub offers a full selection of local and imported wines and spirits, as well as some pretty lethal cocktails. The city has seen a boom in investment recently resulting in many good quality hotels and entertainment facilities making Dar a pleasant start and finish point for visitors to Tanzania.

Beaches: There are good beaches on both the north and south coasts of Dar es Salaam with a variety of accommodation options for those who do not wish to stay in the city centre. The northern beach hotels offer diving and watersports facilities, whilst the southern beaches are still relatively untouched.

Bongoyo Island: A great day trip or destination for an evening sundowner cruise, Bongoyo lies just off the Dar coast and has recently been gazetted as a Marine National Park.
