KENDWA ROCKS

KENDWA ROCKS is located on the north coast of Zanzibar, 55 kilometres from Stone Town and just a few kilometres south of Nungwi village.

Kendwa Rocks takes its name from nearby Kendwa village, and the coral rock formation that offers magnificent views above the beach. Look out across the sea to the distant island of Tumbatu and its lighthouse. Laze all day long on the beautiful white, coral-and-seashell beach. Thrill daily at the beautiful sunset. And when the opportunity presents, dance the night away in the moonlighted feeling the sand between your toes.

  • A white coral beach extends for kilometres in both directions, excellent for swimming at all tides, no rocks or seaweeds

  • Snorkelling, fishing and diving easily arranged (with our neighbour Spanish Divers)

  • Restaurant specialises in Swahili, Indian and Arabic cuisine, mostly seafood and vegetarian, menu is based on the day’s catch

  • Mermaid Bar serves exotic fruit juices & cocktails, open 24 hours, wireless internet connection

  • Accommodation in coral-stone or coconut-wood bungalows or in palm-thatch bandas, according to preference and budget

  • A steam bath right on the beach – plunge straight into the sunset coloured waves of the Indian Ocean.

THE BUNGALOWS are designed to suit different needs, with en-suite bathroom and veranda overlooking the sea.

NORTH & SOUTH WINGS stand on the higher coral rock formation and their spacious verandas command views over the beach towards the Island of Tumbatu.

The SUITES are our largest rooms, luxury for two (for inst. honeymooners) good for a family. UPSTAIRS rooms are also good for honeymooners and the big verandas command wonderful views over the whole site. All have stone baths inside the room.

  • They are built of either CORAL STONE BUNGALOWS or of COCONUT WOOD BUNGALOWS. All have a sea view and a large window opening to the veranda, so you can enjoy the scenery throughout the day. All the bungalows are equipped with fans, some with AC.

  • THE BANDAS are built with palmwood and palmleaves and are equipped with mosquito nets and fans. Shared bathroom facilities.

THE RESTAURANT - serves mainly Zanzibari, Arab and Indian dishes, tasty with coconut milk, spiced with fresh ginger, lime, chili, coriander, turmeric, cumin, clove, cinnamon and cardamom from the island’s spice gardens. The menu is based on the day’s catch: fish, calamari, octopus, prawns or crab. Vegetarian choices are always available. On festive days a delicious barbeque buffet is served on the beach.

THE MERMAID BAR  - has a magnificent view over the sunset.  Exotic juices and cocktails, South African wines and African as well as European beers are available. Enjoy a game of pool, darts or African bao, Indian keram or chess. Open 24 hours, wireless internet connection.

FULL MOON PARTY- is organized around the full moon every month. Delicious barbeque buffet, acrobatic performances, dance music from around the world… be prepared to stay up late.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS Snorkeling, fishing, sunset cruises…volley ball and football! Mvuleni and Fukuchani ruins and caves, an adventure into the history and nature of the North Coast. Spice tours, dolphin tours and cooking courses… Tailored programs for groups.

The Finnish steam bath, SAUNA, built and heated with wood, offers an absolutely refreshing and relaxing experience on a peaceful evening.
